1. AUDITION LENGTH:

Please prepare a 5 minute scene with a partner. The judges will stop the scene if it runs longer than 5 minutes.

2. AUDITION MATERIAL:

Your audition must be a scene and must be performed in English. It should provide an opportunity for an emotional transition.

Monologues, scenes from screenplays and/or improvisations are not accepted.

Please choose contemporary material from the 1930s to the present. The scene should be from a published play that is not written by you. It can be a double audition for you and your partner, or a single audition with your partner helping you.

Choose a role that you feel shows you to your best advantage, and one that is close to you in age, range and experience. Find the event or subtext in the scene.

3. ON THE DAY OF THE AUDITON:

Please arrive approximately 20-30 minutes before your scheduled audition time to complete some paperwork. At that time you will be given a diagram of the theatre so that you can indicate where you want your furniture placed. Any hand props you use you should bring yourself.

Auditions can run early or late so please be prepared for when you are called. No real “preparation time” is provided for you once you have entered the theatre. Once you are on the stage you have a few seconds (before the 5 minutes start) to place your hand props where you like, and then you should begin.

Don’t break your concentration by announcing yourself or your scene. The judges already have this information.

4. FURNITURE AND PROPS:

The Studio has basic rehearsal furniture which you may use; chairs, couch, table and theatre boxes. Please keep your set requirements and hand props to a minimum.

Please be advised that breakable glasses, razor blades, bottles, weapons, any liquid other than water, open flames, and candles are not allowed. The stage should not need to be cleaned when your scene is over.

You must notify us ahead of time if you will be using any prop guns or knives in your scene or if there will be any smoking in the scene. You will be required to use the prop guns and knives that we provide.

5. LIGHTING AND SOUND:

The stage will be adequately lit for your scene. Sound and lighting cues are not provided. When you arrive on stage the lights will already be set.

PLEASE NOTE – If you must cancel your Audition due to an emergency you may reapply for another Audition the following year.

Thank you for your interest in the Studio, and we wish one and all the very best of luck.
